What is steven zipperstein?

Steven J. Zipperstein is an American historian and author who specializes in Jewish and Russian history. He was born on February 11, 1948, in New York City, and grew up in a Jewish family. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester and his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Zipperstein has been a professor of history at Stanford University since 1991, where he holds the Daniel E. Koshland Professorship in Jewish Culture and History. He has written several books, including "Imagining Russian Jewry: Memory, History, Identity," "Elusive Prophet: Ahad Ha'am and the Origins of Zionism," and "The Jews of Odessa: A Cultural History, 1794-1881," which won the National Jewish Book Award.

Zipperstein has also served as the President of the Association for Jewish Studies and as the Director of the Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford University. He has been a visiting professor at numerous universities around the world and has received many fellowships and awards for his scholarly work.
